There Are No Particles, There Are Only Fields

چکیده

Quantum foundations are still unsettled, with mixed effects on science and society. By now it should be possible to obtain consensus on at least one issue: Are the fundamental constituents fields or particles? As this paper shows, experiment and theory imply that unbounded fields, not bounded particles, are fundamental. This is especially clear for relativistic systems, implying that it's also true of nonrelativistic systems. Particles are epiphenomena arising from fields. Thus, the Schr€ odinger field is a space-filling physical field whose value at any spatial point is the probability amplitude for an interaction to occur at that point. The field for an electron is the electron; each electron extends over both slits in the two-slit experiment and spreads over the entire pattern; and quantum physics is about interactions of microscopic systems with the macroscopic world rather than just about measurements. It's important to clarify this issue because textbooks still teach a particles-and measurement-oriented interpretation that contributes to bewilderment among students and pseudoscience among the public. This article reviews classical and quantum fields, the two-slit experiment, rigorous theorems showing particles are inconsistent with relativistic quantum theory, and several phenomena showing particles are incompatible with quantum field theories.

Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields: Carcinogenic and Other Biological Effects

In the electromagnetic spectrum, structural damage to living tissues per unit of absorbed energy tends to increase with the decrease of a wavelength which is evident not only for ultraviolet and ionizing radiation but also for the infrared and visible light. By causing thermal damage after absorbing energies that would be harmless for radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (EMF), tissues are eve...

Synthesis of Silver, Chromium, Manganese, Tin and Iron Nano Particles by Different Techniques

Nano technology has a large number of applications in different fields of science and technology. Nano particle are the tiny particles which are being used in upcoming technology due to their small size and high capability. The properties of nanoparticles depend largely on their synthesis procedures. There are different methods for the synthesis of nano particles using differen...

Random deposition model with friction: Equivalent to ballistic deposition without lateral growth

The Random Deposition model is the simplest model for surface growth, where there is no correlation between the neighbor sites of the lattice. In the Ballistic deposition model, the particles stick to the first neighbor particle; thus it is used to describe the deposition of the sticky particles. However, in many true-life phenomena involving surface growth, there is no adhesion. Instead, the f...

Existence of local degrees of freedom for higher dimensional pure Chern-Simons theories.

Indeed, these symmetries differ from the Lie derivative only by a gauge transformation and are often called improved diffeomorphisms @1#. If the only symmetries of the ChernSimons action are the diffeomorphisms ~3! and the gauge transformations ~2!, then we shall say that there is no accidental gauge symmetry. How this translates into an algebraic condition on ga1•••an11 will be described preci...
